The need for Direct Primary Care
Why Conventional Primary Care Isn’t Working
It’s no secret that healthcare in the United States is confusing, inefficient, and leaves patients frustrated and struggling with uncertain costs for their care.
Most patients wait weeks or even months to see their doctor. When patients finally have an appointment, they often have long wait times just to spend an average of 5-7 minutes with their doctor before being ushered out the door to make another appointment later.
Then the bills arrive, and no matter how much the patient tried to ask about what was covered by insurance and what the costs would be, the leftover part that is still due can be much more than anyone expected.
It’s enough to make many people avoid going to see their doctor at all.
But that’s not a healthy or viable strategy. Preventive and well-managed care is vital for long-term health and well-being. It’s time for a completely different approach.

What Makes Direct Primary Care Different?
We believe that the root cause of all of these problems is that insurance rules are interfering with the doctor-patient relationship. Direct primary care removes insurance distractions and interference, and restores the patient as the sole focus of the doctor’s attention.
Without restrictions from insurance companies, patients receive higher quality care and greater access to a highly trained board-certified physician who cares only about one thing:
You, the patient.
Here are some benefits of membership at a DPC clinic:
- Access to your doctor. Meet with your doctor in a way that fits your schedule and lifestyle. Same-day or next-day appointments are available, whether you need to be examined in person or by phone or video. Quick questions can now be addressed by secure text messaging. All interactions with your doctor are covered by your monthly membership fees, so there is no reason to avoid reaching out when you have a question.
- No need to limit your medical concerns to one or two items per visit. Instead of seeing 20+ patients per day on a strict time-crunched schedule, the DPC model allows doctors to spend more time with each patient, typically 30 to 60 minutes per visit. It’s time for you to truly be heard by your doctor.
- By removing the paperwork burden associated with insurance, DPC doctors can focus their time and attention on you. It’s not enough to have a caring physician if they don’t have time to pay attention to you and your medical needs. With a direct primary care membership, you will gain access to a caring physician with expert education who also has the time to provide you with their full attention and care so that you can accomplish your health goals.

DPC memberships work with insurance
What if I have insurance or Medicare already?
how dpc memberships and insurance work together
Our members are encouraged to maintain a health coverage policy to protect their finances in the event of expensive, unplanned events such as visits to the emergency room or admission to the hospital.
A growing number of insurers and non-insurance health share plans are recognizing the value of access to a DPC physician due to the reduced rates at which their members end up in the ER or hospital. Some of these companies now offer healthcare policy discounts when they are paired with a DPC membership.
DPC clinics do not bill insurance, and our members are not able to submit their membership fees as claims to insurance for reimbursement.
However, members are still able to submit insurance claims for referrals to specialists and for orders such as imaging, labs, and durable medical equipment.
why join a dpc when you have medicare?
Medicare can provide great coverage for many situations. Unfortunately, coverage for healthcare is not the same thing as access to healthcare.
When you combine a DPC membership with Medicare, you get remarkably fast and easy access to a physician who can take care of a large portion of your medical needs, and your Medicare can still be used to cover specialist referrals and other services that are not covered by your DPC membership.
Additionally, Medicare reimbursement rules change all the time, and this drives clinicians to do things that are not always in the best interest of their patients.
When reimbursement rates are threatened by Medicare rule changes, the trend is for corporate-owned clinics to find more numerous and creative ways to bill Medicare.
This creates a conflict of interest, in that clinics are incentivized to engage in activities that increase revenue from Medicare but might not actually improve patient health.
This can cost patients in both time and in co-pays, and it undermines the doctor-patient relationship. DPC cuts out this conflict of interest so that you only participate in medically appropriate activities instead of profit-maximizing ones.
simplify your health care spending
Hospital chains can’t tell you what your bill will be because they have extremely complex reimbursement agreements with insurance companies, and that means you are left holding the bag after someone else settles all the accounts using rules that you are not allowed to see.
Since DPC clinics don’t deal with insurance, you will know exactly what your costs will be when you sign up as a patient and before you do anything at our clinic. Plus, we have set up the pricing at Still Point DPC to remove the conflicts of interest that plague fee-for-service clinics.
All of our services are set up so that your goals of good health and saving money are in alignment with how we get paid.
No nickel-and-diming on services, and no unnecessary procedures or visits to extract more money from you or your insurance company.
